Linking Road Map to Application Cases

A small number of published and ongoing cases help the interested reader in understanding and assessing the potential of the approach proposed by Pragmeta Knowledge Clout.

The differentiating elements in these application cases are explained under three headings:

Gradually, more cases will become available that involve a growing number of stakeholders, including smallholders, and that reference the systematized content commons.

As the reader explores the cases, he or she will also appreciate the dependency upon web-based solutions, of coherent and collectively efficient problem solving.

Application Case Details

For one concluded and ongoing case, the table below briefly summarizes their footprint in the systematized content commons. A link is provided to further details of each case. In the same way as a story is told by using words from a dictionary¹, each development challenge will have a footprint in the systematized content commons.

Collective Regulative Bundle	For a brief description see: Collective Regulative Bundle introduction. Convention on Knowledge Commons	The UNFCCC framework convention and many of the institutional instruments it applies are knowledge commons. Moreover, the Long-Term Cooperative Actions that are being negotiated will be very knowledge-intensive. By providing as systematized knowledge commons, the institutional arrangements, implementation approaches, standards, and public-domain engineering knowledge, their understanding, diffusion and adoption will be accelerated, for a much lower overall cost. A Convention on Knowledge Commons clarifies a socio-economic (business) model that reconciles market benefits with low-hurdle commons provision.
Collective Regulative Bundle	Where the Warming of the climate system (as assessed by the IPCC in its Assessment Reports) is the global problem that has initiated the Framework Convention, the Preamble to the shared vision shows that adaptation and mitigation strategies must cope with a hugely complex problem-mess. Systematic methods to deal with collective problem messes have hardly been consolidated in the scholarly literature, nor have web-based technologies been bundled effectively. Yet, the open communication approach that is implemented by the UNFCCC website facilitates a further connecting of more minds and services while walking through the regulative bundle to contain the problem mess. A causal chain linking factors at different socio-technical levels, primarily in the most vulnerable settings, will be used to evaluate the fitness of the Copenhagen Agreement drafts. Entity Dictionary	The UNFCCC involves interactions among many entities, including the governments of the Parties, new institutional entities, industry, technology, the geophysical environment. The climate talks will lead to modifications in the rights, responsibilities and restrictions of the parties, and their constituencies, with respect to particular objects, including intellectual property objects. Actant Dictionary	The negotiations describe several registers and templates that will be used in the adaptation and mitigation actions, and the large number of related interactions. Convention on Knowledge Commons	The case illustrates the distinction between content commons in the public domain, and knowledge assets that are better nurtured in the proprietary domain.
Collective Regulative Bundle	This case illustrates the use of the Regulative Cycle for a problem mess in a multi-level operations theatre. A causal chain linking factors at different levels is used to determine the design target.
Entity Dictionary	It includes class models of the principals, and their rights, responsibilities and restrictions concerning institution objects.
Interaction Dictionary	The focus is on interactions that matter in cross-border trade as described by the INCO terms, and on VAT duties in the EU (institutional interactions). The MTIC fraud case is used to illustrate regulatory change.
